Eligibility
Only teams located in the United States of America are eligible to enter.
Individuals who are employees, contractors, directors, or officers of 10 Day Film Contest, Inc. (10dfc), its parent, subsidiaries, affiliated companies, as well as distributors, web design, advertising, fulfillment, judging, or Project agencies involved in overseeing, developing, implementing, and executing this Project (collectively referred to as Project Parties) are ineligible to participate. Likewise, immediate family members of Project Partners (e.g., spouses, parents, children, siblings, grandparents, stepchildren) or individuals residing in the same household as Project Partners for at least three months within the twelve-month period leading up to the Project’s start date are also ineligible. This prohibition stands irrespective of whether these individuals are related or not, as long as they share the same residence. Participation is void where prohibited by law.
To Enter
To register for the 10 day film contest in the United States, follow the instructions found on www.10dayfilm.com. Registration is based on a first-come first-served basis and space is limited. Registration is $150.
Official Filmmaking Period
In the United States, each 10 day film contest will commence on a Friday and end 10 days later on a Monday as announced on the 10 day film contest website.
Withdrawing from the 10dfc
10 day film contest Refunds in the United States
If a team (Entrant) must withdraw, refunds will be paid on the following schedule:
- Notify the 10dfc more than 14 days prior to the competition weekend, receive a full refund minus a $25 administrative fee.
- Notify the 10dfc 7 days prior to your competition weekend, receive a full refund minus a $35 administrative fee.
- No refunds less than 6 days prior to the start of competition.
NOTE #1: If Team Leader contracts Covid and must withdraw his/her team within six (6) days of Kickoff, then the registration fee will be refunded minus a $35 administrative fee.
To Withdraw
To withdraw and, if eligible, request a refund or a transfer, the team leader must complete this request form via email to withdraw@10dayfilm.com
Participation of Minors
Team leader’s must be 18 or older. Any volunteer participating in the crew or cast must have written permission from their parents.
Team Leader’s Agreement
Upon submission, participants must give their consent to abide by the terms outlined in the Team Leader’s Agreement. This agreement delineates the rights and obligations of both the Entrant and 10dfc pertaining to the utilization of Entries by 10dfc. Entries that fail to provide all necessary information or do not align with the aforementioned and subsequent stipulations will be deemed invalid and will not be considered for participation in this 10 Day Film Contest.
Production Costs
All costs associated with the production of the Entry are solely the responsibility of the Entrant.
Judging of Entries
Eligible Entries will be judged based on the judging criteria stated below.
- 25%: Use of Subgenre
- 15%: Use of Elements
- 15%: Story
- 15%: Acting
- 15%: Technique/Production
- 15%: Post (Audio, Color, Cut)
- 5%: Wildcard (bonus Points)
Basic Requirements of the Project
Entrants must adhere to the official 10dfc Filmmaking Rules. In addition, at the Kickoff Event, Entrants will receive an assignment and be given exactly 240 hours to make a video (an “Entry”). See www.10dayfilm.com for details.
Project Terms of Submission
By submitting an Entry to this 10 Day Film Contest, each Entrant affirms and guarantees that they possess complete ownership of all rights associated with the Entry they are submitting for this Project. This encompasses the video or digital recording, as well as the performances featured within each Entry, excluding any assets provided by 10dfc for Entrants’ use in connection with this Project. Additionally, each Entrant assures that they have secured consent from all individuals appearing in the Entry, granting the rights specified in these Official Rules to the Project Parties, and they will supply copies of such permissions to the Project Parties.
Upon submitting an Entry, the Entrant agrees to adhere to the Official Rules and further agrees to indemnify and safeguard 10dfc, the Project Parties, their respective affiliates, officers, directors, agents, co-branders, partners, and employees (collectively referred to as the Project Indemnitees) from any claims, damages, expenses, costs (including reasonable legal fees), and liabilities (including settlements) filed or asserted by any third party against any of the Project Indemnitees due to or arising from the Entrant’s Entry materials in relation to this Project, or the Entrant’s conduct during and in connection with this Project. This includes, but is not limited to, claims involving trademark, copyright, other intellectual property rights, right of publicity, right of privacy, or defamation.
The Entrant agrees to release, indemnify, and exempt 10dfc and the Project Parties from any and all claims that may arise asserting that any subsequent advertising, presentation, web content, or any other materials produced, presented, and/or prepared by or on behalf of 10dfc or the Project Parties infringe upon the rights of the Entrant’s work as embodied in any Entry.
Designated Team Leader
If any group of individuals elects to collaborate on an Entry, they are required to designate one (1) person as the agent of the group to enter the 10 day film contest, agree to these Official Rules, sign the Team Leader’s Agreement and accept the prize on behalf of the group. Neither 10dfc nor any of the Project Parties are liable for any disputes between collaborators arising out of or related to the Project.
10 day film contest Winner
Up to 20 films will be considered per competition. In the event of a tie, the tie will be broken based on the highest score in the first Judging Criteria, continuing thereafter to each Judging Criteria in order, as needed to break the tie.
Entrants agree that the 10dfc has the sole right to decide all matters and disputes arising from this 10 day film contest and that all decisions of 10dfc are final and binding.
Asset Buyout
Selected entries will be considered for an asset buyout. Asset buyout will be determined by the 10dfc and will be delivered upon completion of raw asset delivery, this includes:
- All official footage (audio, video, animation, titles, etc)
- All enhancing footage
- All documents, including releases, script, headshots of actor, director and producer bios, and any other documents you would like.
General Conditions
By participating, Entrants agree to these Official Rules which are final and binding in all respects. The 10 day film contest is governed by the laws of the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA, and all claims must be resolved in the Oklahoma City courts or the Federal courts located in Oklahoma.
Limitations of Liability and Release
10dfc and the Project Parties assume no liability or responsibility for any user’s engagement or attempt to engage in the 10 Day Film Contest, nor for the user’s ability or inability to upload or download information while participating in the Project. Neither 10dfc nor the Project Parties are accountable for technical issues or malfunctions that may arise, impacting the Project’s operations. These technical occurrences encompass hardware or software errors, flawed computer systems, telephone lines, cables, satellites, networks, electronic devices, wireless connections, or online communication glitches. It also includes the limitations of Internet service providers, servers, hosts, or providers. Furthermore, issues like scrambled or erroneous data transmissions, failed email dispatches or receptions, late or intercepted emails, or any inaccessibility of the Web Site, whether partially or entirely, for any reason, fall outside the scope of 10dfc’s or the Project Parties’ responsibility.
Similarly, 10dfc and the Project Parties cannot be held accountable for disturbances caused by heavy Internet traffic, unauthorized interventions affecting the Project’s operation (such as tampering, hacking, theft, viruses, bugs, or worms), or the destruction of any component of the Project. Loss, miscount, misdirection, inaccessibility, or unavailability of email accounts linked to the Project are also beyond their control. Errors in the announcement of prizes, in these Official Rules, or inaccurate data on the Web Site or the social media platforms maintained by the 10 Day Film Contest are not the responsibility of 10dfc or the Project Parties. Users utilize the Web Site and the 10dfc’s social media platforms at their own risk. Moreover, neither 10dfc nor the Project Parties can be held liable for any personal injury, property damage, or losses suffered by users or any other individuals due to participation in the Project, use of the Web Site, or downloading information from the Web Site.
By participating in the Project, the Entrant agrees to release, indemnify, and hold 10dfc and the Project Parties harmless from any and all claims, damages, or liabilities arising from or connected to the Entrant’s involvement in the Project.
Winners
Winners will be posted online at 10dayfilm.com/horror/2023. Top 20 films are eligible to be included in a compilation with royalty compensation over the course of its distribution. Other entries will be available on 10dfc’s official youtube and are not eligible for royalty compensation.
